    Position Title: Environmental Compliance Specialist, Principal P4040E

    Summary:

    Interprets, recommends, and complies with environmental, health and safety regulations and/or company policies. Assists in planning changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. Finds, evaluates, and prepares contracts for properly licensed hazardous waste disposal firms and monitors waste handling. Organizes and equips spill-control teams. Writes and updates environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures. Prepares environmental impact statements and applies for all new permits and renewals. Provides input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the writing and revision of regulations.

    Roles/Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the environmental processes and programs at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC); works in collaboration with staff to ensure the maintenance, operations, and reporting requirements on all environmental systems at the PIADC are in accordance prescribed facility guidelines.
    • Support the DHS Environmental Protection Offices in policy development and implementation.
    • Supervise, coordinate, and provide technical oversight for challenge testing systems, repair and maintenance of critical equipment, filtration, and other decontamination systems and processes in accordance with manufacturer's and approved PIADC program requirements.
    • Supervision and oversight of critical facilities maintenance and repair to include water and wastewater treatment systems and high containment decontamination facilities.
    • Ability to understand and apply facility requirements, regulatory requirements, and facility design characteristics to compliance requirements.
    • Develop, maintain, update, or amend as necessary the Facility SOPs to continually improve the safety, effectiveness, and efficiency of provided services.
    • Participate in all applicable regulatory/oversight entity activities; prepare for the inspections and participate as necessary.
    • Conduct routine inspections to ensure integrity of facility conditions to maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment, and to prevent release of pathogens.
    • Compile all required environmental data and submit reports in accordance with prescribed schedules and standards.
    • Ability to independently write technical reports and analyses relating to facility engineering, environmental, and regulatory documentation.
    • Supervision and mentoring of technical and trades staff.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree required. May require Advanced Degree. 7-10 years of related work experience. Education may be used in lieu of experience. Proficient at applications within Microsoft Office 365. Experience with SharePoint Communication Sites. Must be a US Citizen and be eligible for PIADC.

    Salary:

    This position is for Principal Level at $113k-$170k / year

    We are seeking an Entry Level Staff Scientist with 0-3 years of experience. This is a full-time position with benefits at EnviroTrac’s New York office in Yaphank.  Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Perform soil and groundwater sampling
    • Remediation system installation oversight
    • Drilling and monitor well installation
    • Aquifer studies
    • Environmental site assessments
    • Compliance and regulatory reporting
    • Geotechnical investigations
    • Storage tank closures
    • Site reclamation activities
    • Field analysis and surveying
    • Construction and excavation oversight
    • Research on state, local, and federal levels
    • Remediation operation and maintenance along with other related environmental consulting tasks. 

    Skills and Qualifications we are looking for include:

    • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or geology-related science
    • Working knowledge with environmental site assessment methods (ASTM 1527-13 and/or 40 CFR Part 312)
    • Direct work experience performing Phase I ESAs (completed at least 30 to 50 Phase I ESAs)
    • Strong observation, communication, organizational and technical writing abilities
    • Self-motivated, resourceful, and ability to work independently on multiple projects at a time under strict deadlines
    • Physical ability to work in the field under all weather conditions, climb ladders, stairs and walk on a variety of terrain
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and work with computerized database searches
    • Valid Driver’s License

    Additional Qualifications/Certifications that are a plus:

    • 40 hour OSHA HAZWOPER
    • Asbestos/lead/mold certifications
    • Experience in proposing/implementing Phase II site investigation work

    PWGC is looking for someone who is up to challenges and comfortable working out of a (small 2-4 person) office in Saratoga Springs. Must be efficient, self-motivated, and interested in learning. Field and office assignments for mining, environmental, and industrial projects throughout New York and New England. Must be comfortable working and driving on industrial sites. This is a great opportunity to strengthen writing and technical skills.

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop an understanding of monitoring and sampling techniques and use of sampling and monitoring equipment
    • Understanding of relevant regulations, permits, and permitting framework
    • Contractor oversight
    • Environmental compliance audits and site assessments; storm water inspections, monitoring, and sampling; bulk storage reviews and written plan preparation
    • Prepare documents in accordance with project objective and company standards

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor's of Science, Geology or Mining/Geological Engineering
    • 2-4 years experience industry experience, or a Master's degree
    • Technical writing, excellent written/oral communication skills
    • Travel required, typically day trips
    • Reliable transportation to commute to work sites, valid driver's license & clean driving record. - Ideal candidate will live local to the Saratoga Springs Office.
    • Must be able to perform field work and be able to carry 50+ lbs

    Preferred:

    • NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Endorsed 4-Hour Erosion & Sediment Control current Certification a plus
