    C.T. Male Associates - Environmental Geologist / Hydrogeologist

    C.T. Male Associates, a multi-discipline consulting firm in the Northeast, is seeking a driven and hands-on Environmental Geologist / Hydrogeologist to join our team in either our Latham or Poughkeepsie, NY office.     Primary Responsibilities:

    • Compile and evaluate technical data and assist in report preparation, environmental compliance plans, and permits.
    • Communicate with project manager, subcontractors, regulatory agents, and clients.
    • Coordinate and direct drilling, surveying, and laboratory services.
    • Conduct field work including aquifer testing and evaluation; drilling oversight and soil/rock logging; supply well construction observation; sampling of environmental media; soil boring and monitoring well installation observation; and well development, purging, and sampling.
    • Prepare daily reporting of field activities and relay conceptual interpretation of data.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related discipline.
    • Five to ten (5-10) years relevant environmental experience, including environmental field work.
    • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and annual OSHA 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher Training.
    • Valid driver’s license.

    Preferred:

    • Holds NYS Fundamentals of Geology (FG) license and on path to obtain NYS Registered Professional Geologist (PG) license.
    • Experience with Surfer®, Win-Situ software, AQTESOLV software and/or other groundwater plotting or modeling packages, ArcGIS, Collector, and EQuIS data management.

    Position Overview

    Our office in Islandia, NY is seeking responsible, self-sufficient, energetic entry-level Geologists or Scientists to work on projects, involving field work, related to the investigation and environmental remediation of industrial and commercial sites. Candidates should be prepared for professional growth into areas such as assessment of remedial alternatives, management of various investigative and remediation tasks, conceptual plans and regulatory interaction. The ideal candidate will be motivated to develop and build their personal knowledge and skills to assist with the growth and success of the office. Excellent teamwork and organizational skills are required. We offer a friendly, professional atmosphere with excellent benefits and a salary commensurate with experience.

    Position Requirements

    • Bachelor’s required; Master’s preferred; Geology, Hydrogeology, Earth Science or related field
    • 0-3 years environmental consulting experience
    • Ability to produce quality work on budget and on schedule
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with technical writing experience
    • Use of a personal vehicle and valid drivers license is required to travel between
    • worksites
    • Preferred Knowledge of geologic concepts such as stratigraphy, groundwater flow and geochemistry
    • Familiarity with environmental sampling techniques
    • Familiarity with drilling and well construction techniques
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
    • Experience with databases, GIS, and/or AutoCAD a plus
    • Groundwater modeling experience a plus

    Essential Duties

    • 75% to 90% + field work during the first three years
    • Support the office project work and collaborate with technical staff to service clients and complete projects on time and on budget
    • Assistance with site investigation, data analysis, and report preparation activities
    • Assistance with site remediation system operations and maintenance activities
    • Environmental sampling of soil, soil vapor, indoor air, and groundwater
    • Health and safety monitoring
    • Oversight of remediation and construction subcontractors
    • Review of field data and preparation of data evaluation reports
    • Assistance with budget management as required by the project manager

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor of Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science/Studies, or related science

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum five years’ experience OR master’s degree and 3 years of experience

    REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: HAZWOPER, NYC Site Safety Training Card a plus, PG or FG a plus

    KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge of NYSDEC Brownfield and NYCOER E-Designation regulations, as well as due diligence (Phase I and Phase II ESAs) a plus. Effective technical writing skills. Proficient in MS Office. Must be able to perform field work when needed. Local travel required, lifting to 50 lbs. Ability to effectively communicate technical information to clients, peers, and supervisors, both verbally and in writing; multitask; decision-making, analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills. Contractor oversight and organizational skills.
