Job purpose

The Senior Environmental Project Manager oversees the overall performance of the hazardous materials (HazMat.) Department. We are looking for a seasoned environmental consulting leader to manage complex site investigation, remediation, and compliance projects. This role oversees multidisciplinary teams, ensures regulatory compliance, drives client relationships, and supports business development.

Ideal for a senior professional with deep technical expertise, strong project management skills, and a proven ability to lead teams and deliver high-quality environmental solutions.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Lead and manage environmental projects, including site investigations, remediation, permitting, and compliance.
  • Serve as primary client contact, ensuring strong communication and long-term relationship development.
  • Develop project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables aligned with client and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and mentor project teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Monitor project performance and implement corrective actions to meet scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Support business development through proposals, presentations, and industry engagement.
  • Provide QA/QC oversight and perform final peer reviews of major deliverables.
  • Assist with staff recruitment, development, and technical training.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies and clients as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Degree in environmental science or engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional certification/registration preferred (PE, PG, PMP, CHMM, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of CERCLA, RCRA, Brownfield, OER, and related programs.
  • Proven experience managing complex environmental projects.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
  • Expertise in Phase I/II ESAs and remediation practices.

Working Conditions

The position demands compliance with complex regulations and schedules established by clients. Due to the latter, some weekend work is required for completion of project deliverables.

Due to the requirement to closely follow client regulations and to meet strict timelines, remote work is not permitted. Exceptions may be made only under extenuating circumstances and must be approved by senior management on a case-by-case basis and be very limited in nature.

  • Range: $150,000 - $200,000
