In Memoriam: Thomas Dwyer, P.G. (NY)

June 30, 2026 10:06 AM | Chris Wenczel (Administrator)

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Thomas Dwyer, a valued member of the LIAPG community, a dedicated public servant, and a true friend to many.

Tom served with distinction as a former LIAPG Board Member, as a NYS-licensed Professional Geologist, as an environmental consultant, and most recently as an Environmental Protection Specialist/Procurement Officer for the Department of Homeland Security at Plum Island. His professional contributions were marked by diligence, integrity, and a genuine commitment to protecting both people and the environment. Many of us also remember the unique opportunities he created, for example, organizing two memorable LIAPG field trips to Plum Island in 2016 & 2017 that reflected both his pride in his work and his desire to share it with others.

Beyond his professional achievements, Tom will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, and unmistakable sense of humor. He had a way of connecting with people that made everyone feel valued. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, a well-timed joke, or his tireless efforts to help others, including organizing an aid campaign for Ukraine, Tom demonstrated a deep care for humanity that defined his character. He set examples for all of us to model.

For those of you who knew him, you likely carry more than one personal story of Tom, moments of kindness, laughter, or encouragement that holds a special place in our hearts. It is through these memories that his spirit will continue to live on within our community.

For those who wish to honor Tom’s legacy in a lasting and meaningful way, donations can be made in his name to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation: https://secure.qgiv.com/for/pulfibfou/

Tom, you made an impact on all of our lives in ways both large and small. You will be missed more than words can express.

Godspeed to the next realm, we will miss you old friend.
